OK OK so we don’t always have a fitness challenge. In December we did the “No Flour” Challenge and for March– its the “Eat your Veggies” challenge.
But not just any veggies…. RAW VEGGIES.
Your challenge is to eat at least 1 serving (at least a heaping cup) of Raw Veggies per day…
some ideas are:
-chopped peppers
-celery
-cucumber
-carrots
-snap peas
-spinach

Not only do raw veggies provide extra fiber in your diet, but compared with people who consume a diet with only small amounts of fruits and vegetables, those who eat more generous amounts as part of a healthful diet are likely to have reduced risk of chronic diseases, including stroke and perhaps other cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers.
**note– you may want to take a digestive enzyme to help with bloating and gas. Also stay away from raw broccoli, brussel sprouts and cabbage, as in their raw state are known to suppress thyroid.
PS If you want another Physical Challenge– we encourage you to look back at some of ours in the past and catch up or try again to see if you can do better–
Very nice mentioning the goitrogenic properties in some of the raw veggies noted above. As a person struggling to maintain my fitness (through the last few rather hellish years) not realizing I had a thyroid issue, it’s important that some light is shed on the ins and outs of maintaining healthy thyroid function. I’m sure you know that soy (especially of the unfermented variety) ie: tofu, edamame, some veggie burgers etc. is a HUGE thyroid no-no, but it’s definitely worth mentioning as well. I’m convinced that 9 years as an uninformed consumer that THOUGHT I was doing the ‘healthy’ thing by incorporating these things into my diet DAILY had a lot to do with my eventual hypothyroidism.
You guys rock! Keep doing what your doing ladies!!
Well Danny has been struggling with Thyroid issues for over 4 years so we try to mention these things and also bring awareness to many hormonal problems that can cause weight gain/stall weight loss or hinder health when we can Thanks for noticing;)
and yes we will sometime have to do a post on SOY!
This is a challenge that won’t be so hard for me. I eat veggies raw anyway. Cooking takes too long and I feel like I’m stripping away their nutrients. Thanks for the tip about raw broccoli suppressing thyroid function. I didn’t know that and I already have an under active one! I’m going to add one of the previous physical challenges to this one P.S.- I kinda feel like I’m on Double Dare w/the physical challenge hahah.
haha perfect!
Raw broccoli causes thyroid problems??
I eat raw broccoli almost consistently! It’s my go-to snack! Uh oh!
we just learned this recently, it might use a little more research
Oh wow! I just did some of my own reading on foods and their effect on the thyroid. I have hypothyroidism and take Synthroid daily. And I eat raw broccoli like it was going out of style! Dairy also has a negative effect which I gave up over a year ago. After eliminating that and now broccoli and cabbage, I will have to go for a blood test to see if I’ll be able to go off the Synthroid. It’s so cool how the body works. And I like learning new stuff!
And I have a raw veggie tip: You can add a big handful or two of raw spinach to your favorite smoothie or blended shake and it won’t change the taste. It’s a good way to get in some extra veggies or get kids to eat them. It turns your shake bright green, but that adds to the awesome! Seriously. Even works with peanut butter.
Love your tip! and Danny also suffers from hypothyroidism so we just want to let people know the effects. we actually just learned about the raw broccoli while doing some research for the cleanse. ALways good to learn new information~~
