What to eat while you’re traveling and Premier Protein Review

What to eat when you travel

I have been on the road for over 2 weeks and I realized the importance of bringing your own food or having some quick and easy snacks while you’re out and about.
Of course, whole foods are your best option, but sometimes those go bad or just aren’t available. I love to have a few protein bars on hand and Premier Protein in one brand that I like!
They asked me to do a review, and I gladly accepted, as I have been using their products for at least 6 years now.
So here’s how I use them and keep an eye out for a contest next week to WIN!!!

Protein Coffee Creamer Review

Ripped Cream Protein Creamer

So I get asked to write reviews and try products from time to time. Sometimes I’m not interested and sometimes I’m intrigued and excited, this was one of the latter.

If you don’t know, I’m a big coffee LOVER. I have given it up in the past and I have tried drinking it black, but you know what?! I realized life is too short and I just enjoy some nice hot coffee with cream and sweetener. It’s my ONE vice… so sue me! I don’t claim to be perfect!
I have graduated to stevia but I will use raw sugar when I’m out if I need sweet (I use less than I used to), and sometimes I drink it black, but I do love a little creamy texture but I’m kind of picky about my creamer– no soy milk, yes to milk sometimes, yes on creamer powder, no on the half and half, no on almond milk, etc (see?! I’m picky!!)

This is where RIPPED CREAM comes in!
I saw Ripped Cream on twitter and I was intrigued by the name, then I saw that it was a PROTEIN coffee creamer… Hmmmm coffee creamer that gives me a little more protein, I like it!
But will I LIKE it?!

OK, so first off, there are two flavors: Lean Vanilla Bean & Chizzled Chocolate

Ripped Cream Protein Creamer

How to decide?!
well… that was easy.. I got both

The creamer is powdered, which is actually fine, because 99% of the time I use powdered creamer. I don’t know why, but I just like it better!
I looked at the ingredients and, well, to be quite honest, there were some things I couldn’t pronounce, but all in all, it was what coffee creamer powders are made of: coconut oil, cornstarch and organic sugar…. and protein.

The MIX test: amazing. This product was not clumpy at all, gave my coffee a very nice consistency and flavor and honestly, I didn’t really need to add much more sweetener to it.

The TASTE test: This product was actually very yummy. I kind of had low expectations (just beecause I’m a cynic) and I actually really really loved it. I would say, I couldn’t tell a huge difference between the chocolate and vanilla in the coffee but they were equally yum.

I actually decided to put some of the chocolate creamer in my oatmeal and THAT was a brilliant idea. I could taste the chocolate much better and it made for some yummy breakfast.

Protein Creamer Oatmeal Idea

If you’re looking for something sugar-free or uber healthy, this isn’t your product. BUT if you’re looking for a healthier, higher protein version of the stuff you already use, then I’d say Ripped Cream is a great buy! I love the marketing, I love the idea and it was also started by a woman and I LOVE to support women entrepreneurs anytime I can.

Definitely check out their website to order at www.rippedcream.com AND I have a special coupon code for FREE SHIPPING.. pow!!

Upon checkout, you can enter shipfree in the box “Enter Your Coupon”, and it will take off $5.95 from the order.

Rich Food Poor Food

Rich Food Poor Food
The Ultimate Grocery Purchasing System

I received this book in the mail  last week, and honestly, it couldn’t have come at a better time!

Recently, my husband and I have started to BUDGET our food. We are working on a Financial FREEDOM plan and we are realizing that we really need to get more bang for our buck where food is concerned.

At first, I thought this was just another “EAT THIS, NOT THAT” type book.
It’s not! It was written by a couple; Jayson and Mira Calton who have degrees in nutrition, but whose real quest for health came when Mira found out she had advanced osteoporosis at age 30!!
She was thin, but not healthy.
I was very intrigued from the beginning of the book because they talk about MICRO-nutrients and how deficiency in those, can cause many problems (Think: Vitamins & Minerals)
But we are too often concerned with MACRO-Nutrients (think: Carbs & Fats)

Rich Food Poor Food

The book talks about how INGREDIENTS are often much more important than the carb or fat content.
The very first example in the book was a bag of Lay’s Potato Chips vs. a bag of BAKED! Lay’s Potato Chips.

In “Eat This Not That”, they might suggest eating the BAKED Lay’s, because they are lower in calories and fats, however, if you look at the ingredients, the chips only have THREE ingredients: potatoes, oil and salt.

The BAKED Lay’s, have eight ingredients and aren’t even a “potato”!! They have added sugar, corn and soy. (full of GMO’s)

I instantly realized why this book was different. We often don’t know or understand the “hidden” ingredients in our food or the best brands to buy. Or maybe we can’t afford “Organic”. so what is the next best thing?

This book basically breaks down what all the chemicals are, what they do and why you should avoid some and moderate others. It also tells you WHAT BRANDS to choose and which ones to stay away from! (with pictures!!)

This book was full of pictures, places to take notes, and broken down into sections of the grocery store, it even had some fun recipes!
The ONLY thing I didn’t like about the book was that I didn’t recognize many of the brands. This leads me to believe that a lot of these brands might be found at Whole Foods? However, I don’t buy a ton of packaged foods anyway and with the ingredients lists, I’m sure I can find comparable brands, if not the ones listed.

If you’re interested in grabbing this book, you can find it online at Amazon (Kindle too!)

Fitness Holiday Gift Guide

this is MY bag. I love black, its sexy and goes with everything!

A Sweaty Betties Holiday Gift-Giving Guide

are you wondering what to give your fellow fit gals for Christmas? Do you need to just drop a giant hint to your husband/boyfriend/parents? Here’s a great gift guide full of some of MY personal favorites and some of these are also a hint to my hubby… so make sure you leave this page open and pass the link around;)

Workout Clothes- when you’ve been working out as long as I have, you realize that a brand spankin’ new workout outfit can make you have the best workout of your life! Seriously! I used to just think “Oh I’m going to get sweaty anyway” and just wear scrubs to the gym… but I got the cutest workout top and pants from a friend.. and man! Nothing like a feeling of looking good to feel good! Here are a few of my favorite brands (and a little less $ but cuter (in my opinion) that Lululemon)

MPG (Mondetta Performance Gear)- This is great gear for runners, yoga peeps, weight lifters and group exercisers. Just good quality and I LOVE the colors and how they change it up each season.

I have this exact top. I LOVE the color. One of my faves

WOD Gear- I’m totally into Crossfit, even though I don’t belong to a box. These are super cool clothes for the crossfitter (and just cool chick) in your life

I love the wide waistband pants… very slimming

Lorna Jane Activewear- OK I was visiting in Marina Del Rey and just walked into a Lorna Jane Store. I had vaguely seen the brand before, on Instagram, but I fell in LOVE after really seeing their stuff. OMG–> Seriously, Lulu just needs to go. Not only do they have fun colors, styles, etc. but I LOVE the brand message: MOVE, NOURISH, BELIEVE.
Powerful Stuff. They do have a few stores in California (based in Australia) but you can shop online.

I don’t have this top yet, but I’m in love with the back and I want it!

Books– I’m a total book nerd and you can see my past post on my FAVORITE inspirational & workout books

Gym Bags- Hello!! The one thing I love to have besides cute workout gear, is a cute gym bag! It makes carrying my jumprope, workout papers, towel, water and ID much more fun. (and stylish) Here are two really cute ones:

oGorgeous- these bags are to DIE for. Seriously. I am lucky enough to call the designer, Cassey, my friend, and I saw how much work she puts into each bag.. insane. The quality is amazing, they are lined, have cool zippers and pouches where you need them and are cute in and out of the gym (Mine has become my day to day purse. LOL) Great for yoga mats too!

and there’s even cute Yoga bags!

LiveWell360- these are also some sassy bags I just came across. I love the colors and they have cute inspirational quotes on the liner! LOVE!

love the yoga strap on this one!

Fitness Jewelry- a bunch of you wanted some dumbbell, kettlebell and other assorted fitness jewelry, so here were a few I found

cool tire and sledgehammer necklaces

Creative Galina etsy for Dumbbell Necklaces

www.gymgems.com for other silver dumbbells

Motivational Jewelry- my favorite bracelet all year that I wear almost everyday, is my Cynthia H Designs “Believe in Miracles” I love to have little reminders

LOVE these!

EQUIPMENT:

JumpSport Fitness Trampoline- This is just so cool, especially if you live in a tiny apartment, as I do now.. and sometimes things get a little boring! These things are fun, foldable and there’s a lot more you can do than just bounce!

JumpSport Fitness Trampoline

Kettle Bells/Dumbbells- gotta get em!! All the SB Workouts need at least SOMETHING!!

Motivation & a Plan- Well hello! I’m totally going to plug my own site! Get a Sweaty Betties Fitness Membership, you’l get weekly emails with meal plans, motivation, workouts to follow and monthly webinars and calls with ME and other experts. BAM! Your year is covered.

Eco-Friendly Re-usable Water Bottle- I found this cool water bottle on the Egg Whites International site. You can private label them (A SB Bottle??) but they are carbon filtered, so you can fill your water up anywhere and have safe, clean water! Great for the environment and travel!

TRX System- this is a cool ass gift– a little pricey and I’m totally glad I WON mine. A must-have for the hardcore at-home gym person. These are so great for creativity, core, balance and strength

Footie Pajamas- There is something ridiculous, yet cozy and sexy about one-piece pajama sets. I totally want one!!

One-Piece  Pajamas

Stocking Stuffers:

Dry Shampoo- this is the workout girls dream. I swear. You just can’t wash and style your hair every day because you’re sweaty. It just wrecks it (plus who has time?!) Blow dry your sweat out, spray this is to tame the grease and it smells amazing! You won’t want to wash for a week! LOL BONUS: Under $5

Socks- I’ve been getting socks for years for Christmas. Nothing like a cute pair of fun lifting or crossfit socks. I love these socks from Sox Box they have all different colors and fun words!

Jump Rope- I’ve bought plenty of jump ropes in my day. I used to try and find the cheapest ones I could, which were still around $7.99 and buy about 10 of them for my group training classes. Unfortunately  these things would break after just a few uses and I’d end up pissed! I finally broke down and decided to pay a little more for a rope and honestly, it was a great investment. Ever since the May Jump Rope Challenge I’ve gotten to be a better jumper, plus, you can take your cardio with you anywhere. Here is a cute pink rope (its the one I got!)

Headbands- I’m going to do a shameless plug for my own personal “I am a Sweaty Betty” Sweaty Bands.. but honestly, Sweaty Bands are the best invention in head bands, ever. I love throwing my hair in a pony tail, throwing on one of my three (and hopefully soon to be more) Sweaty Bands and just go! They are so cute, easy and don’t slip! They have sooo many, you’ll want at least … well.. half a dozen. LOL

Sin<less Cocktails- I’m not a big drinker. Once in awhile (like once or twice a year) I like to have a drink, but I hate the calories and I’m totally a sweet, cocktail girl. So, I was soooo excited to find this brand who not only makes a low-calorie cocktail mix, but they do it with stevia and other healthier ingredients– TOTAL QUALITY. Seriously, read their “about us” page and you’ll love the company as much as you do the drinks. Anyway, they have a LIMITED HOLIDAY MIX of flavors, including: green apple, vanilla sour, and cinnamon! YUM!

Steamer Veggies Review

Green Giant Seasoned Steamers

I’m often asked to review different products on this page; from gadgets & doo-dads, to different diet shakes & energy formulas, but when I was asked my Green Giant to review their Seasoned Steamers™ vegetables in October, I thought, What perfect timing! It’s the month of our JERF Challenge (Just Eat Real Food) and I am realizing how often it’s just inconvenient, to get real food prepped, cooked and seasoned to taste good!

I’ve said this many times: I am not a cook. I have definitely been trying new recipes and new methods lately, but some days I still go to my old pal the microwave so I can heat up something quick and easy.

I’ve actually bought frozen veggies many times; they’re convenient and are always in season! The Green Giant® Seasoned Steamers™ however, had a nice– already seasoned flavor, so they were ready to eat. The ingredients were simple; a little but of sea salt, pepper and olive oil.

I don’t like to make complicated recipes, so throwing the bag in the microwave, some rice in the cooker and some turkey on the stove to brown (not pictured) and I had a simple tasty dinner. This is something that I can do anytime and I love that there are six different blends to choose from!

Seasoned Steamers™, a new line of Green Giant® vegetables, gives you unexpectedly delicious taste in every vegetable bite.  These chef-inspired, seasoned vegetables come in six new varieties ranging from smoky roasted cues to ethnic inspired flavors.  By roasting, seasoning and freezing individual pieces, our vegetables lock in flavor so delicious, your family will ask for more.  In less than 8 minutes, your family can enjoy new Seasoned to Delicious™ Seasoned Steamers™.

How can I detox from SUGAR?!

we can do anything for 3 weeks, right?!

We are 3 weeks into the August Sweets N’ Sprints Challenge and I just noticed today for the first time I didn’t have outrageous cravings!
I do have to say that I caved and totally had some coffee with (4) splenda AND a diet soda (GEEZ!!) on the 3rd and 5th days and I had to “re-commit” myself to the challenge… geez!
It was HARD! Harder than I thought. I didn’t really know if the cravings were actually physical or more psychological, but probably both!

I started doing some research and actually, what prompted me was an email from my friend George of Civilized Caveman Cooking. He just got home from a 6-week “tour of being cool” and said he was going to do this 21-Day Sugar Detox. So, when George posts, I listen…. and I bought it. haha. Anyway, just thought I would share something that might help you, motivate you and also keep you on track a little better than I did the first 21-days. I think this is something I will refer back to often. I wish I had known because they started their new 21-day group on their Facebook Page on August 6th! Ha!

we can do anything for 3 weeks, right?!

I also found this e-book The Sugar Addiction Solution. I’ll be honest, I didn’t download this one, because I already did the first one, but it was intriguing, so I thought I’d share, and if you’re interested and you get it, let me know your review!

My Favorite Books

BOOKS

Lately I have been asked by quite a few people what are some books that I recommend.

If you don’t know me well, let me just tell you, I am quite the book nerd. I love to read, however, I definitely don’t get as much of a chance to read as often as I’d like.

(I know,I know, you have to make the time!! I need to make more time to read!)

Anyway, I thought I would post a few of these books so you have a great place to start if you’re looking for motivation, diet advice or just want some solid NO BS information.

“Diet/Lifestyle Books”

The Dark Side of Fat Loss– this is an e-book by a colleague of mine, Sean Croxton. I fully trust Sean because he’s def, a no b.s. guy when it comes to all things training and diet. He admits that he was wrong in the past (as was I) and he asks all the right questions of all the right people on his podcast “The Underground Wellness Show
This e-book is a great resource and you can download it now!

The Metabolic Effect– this book is written by a friend, colleague and mentor of mine, Jade Teta and his brother Keoni Teta. I know Jade personally and his methods of training are without a doubt things that I use in my training everyday. He’s great at simplifying difficult concepts and helping your figure out YOUR personal fat-burning formula. I love the approach, because we are all different. This is a great resource for anyone to have!

Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body!– by Jillian Michaels. Ok another fact about me, I LOVE JILLIAN MICHAELS. I’d have to say she is my idol? Maybe. I just love her straight-forward, no B.S. approach, and in her years of working with severely obese people, I think she’s learned a thing or two. I also have  a lot in common with her (besides our careers) dealing with thyroid issues among other things. Jillian’s book is great, its not always easy to understand, or follow, but its a good, solid piece of info as well if you want to get off the weight-loss roller coaster once and for all.

Then I have two books that I love for self-growth, personal development and goal setting.

Twelve Pillars– by Jim Rohn and Chris Widener. O.M.G. Jim Rohn is one of my favorite speakers of all time. I sadly learned about him only 3 months before he passed away. I wish I could have seen him speak in person. This book is a simple story of a man who breaks down on the side of the road and learns some wonderful lessons from a gardner. The lessons you can apply to your jobs, your family, your weight-loss, anything! I simply cannot say enough about this book. You can finish it in less than a weekend too!

Excuses Begone!– Dr. Wayne Dyer. I actually have the CDs of this book, because I love listening to Dr. Dyer while I drive. This book is about how you can change your mental outlook and get rid of any bad habit, any self-defeating thought simply with a shift in your paradigm.
